The gene fragment corresponding to amino acid residues 184-638 of the Chlamydomonas reinhardtii autolysin is expressed in E.coli. The resulting protein is fused with the 6xHis-SUMO motif at the N-terminus, leading to the production of the 6xHis-SUMO-tagged recombinant autolysin protein. This fusion protein covers the full length of the mature protein. Its purity is over 90% determined by SDS-PAGE. It presented on the 65 kDa molecular weight band on the gel. It is available now. The target protein autolysin is an endogenous lytic enzyme that degrades the peptidoglycan components of biological cells thus enabling the separation of daughter cells following cell division. It also participates in cell growth, cell wall metabolism, and peptidoglycan turnover.
