The recombinant Escherichia coli (strain K12) DXR protein is introduced into a rabbit, which triggers the production of antibodies against this specific antigen. To increase antibody production, a booster injection is administered. The resulting DXR polyclonal antibodies are collected from the rabbit's serum and purified using protein A/G. Rigorous testing in ELISA and WB assays has confirmed that the DXR antibody specifically binds to the Escherichia coli (strain K12) DXR protein.
The Escherichia coli (strain K12) DXR protein mainly catalyzes the conversion of 1-deoxy-D-xylulose 5-phosphate (DXP) to 2-C-methyl-D-erythritol 4-phosphate (MEP) in the non-mevalonate pathway of isoprenoid biosynthesis. This pathway is found in many bacteria, including E. coli, and is an attractive target for the development of new antibiotics and herbicides.
