Target Background

Function
Binds GTP and exhibits intrinsic GTPase activity. Activates the protein kinase activity of TORC1, and thereby plays a role in the regulation of apoptosis. Stimulates the phosphorylation of S6K through activation of TORC1 signaling. May also have a role in activating TORC2 signaling.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Rheb overexpression in the central brain neurons of flies causes not only morphological phenotypes, but behavioral and aging phenotypes that may mirror symptoms of tuberous sclerosis complex PMID: 23028662
  2. Rheb promotes cell growth as a component of the insulin/TOR signaling network. PMID: 12766776
  3. Rheb is a direct target of the tuberous sclerosis suppressor proteins. PMID: 12771962
  4. dRheb is required for both cell growth (increase in mass) and cell cycle progression PMID: 12893813
  5. Rheb-TOR signaling controls S2 cell growth by promoting ribosome production and protein synthesis, not by direct effects on the import of amino acids or glucose. PMID: 17371599
