This human GDF2 ELISA kit employs the quantitative sandwich enzyme immunoassay technique to measure the levels of human GDF2 in serum, plasma, or tissue homogenates. It also uses the enzyme-substrate chromogenic reaction to visualize and analyze the analyte levels through the color intensity. The intensity of the colored product is in direct proportion to the GDF2 levels in the sample and is measured at 450 nm through a microplate reader.
GDF2, also known as BMP9, is a circulating vascular quiescence factor that possesses a high affinity for the BMPR2/ALK1 complex. Under physiological conditions, BMP9 is primarily expressed and secreted by the liver. BMP9 protects endothelial cells from apoptosis and excessive proliferation, inhibits vascular permeability, modulates vascular endothelial differentiation, promotes angiogenesis, and suppresses arteriosclerosis. BMP9 also participates in the regulation of several biological activities, including iron ion balance, cartilage formation, angiogenesis, the differentiation of neurons, as well as glucose and lipid metabolism.
