The rabbit IL-1 ELISA kit is suitable for the quantitative determination of rabbit IL-1 in different sample types, including serum, plasma, and tissue homogenates. This assay employs the bi-antibody sandwich technique and enzyme-substrate chromogenic reaction to quantify antigen levels in the sample. The amount of synthesized colored products is positively related to the analyte of interest in the sample.

IL-1, also called IL-1α or IL1A, is a ubiquitous and pivotal pro-inflammatory cytokine. IL-1/IL-1R1 signaling induces pro-inflammatory signaling cascades including NF-κB, JNK, p38, AP-1, and MAPK pathways, resulting in the expression of myriad mediators, which orchestrate the development of an immune response. It exerts both beneficial, promoting innate immunity against invading microorganisms, and harmful roles in a variety of autoimmune and autoinflammatory diseases including cancer. In cancers, IL-1 affects the tumor microenvironment and promotes the initiation and progression of tumor cells.

Produced by activated macrophages, IL-1 stimulates thymocyte proliferation by inducing IL-2 release, B-cell maturation and proliferation, and fibroblast growth factor activity. IL-1 proteins are involved in the inflammatory response, being identified as endogenous pyrogens, and are reported to stimulate the release of prostaglandin and collagenase from synovial cells.
