The rat stem cell factor (SCF) Elisa kit is suitable for the quantitative measurement of rat SCFin serum, plasma, or tissue homogenates. This assay employs the sandwich enzyme immunoassay technique and enzyme-substrate chromogenic reaction. The color develops positively to the amount of rat SCF in samples. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured. SCF, also called KITLG or MGF, is a major regulator of human and rodent mast cells (MC). SCF induces MC differentiation, as well as chemotaxis and mediator secretion in MC. It plays an important role in hematopoiesis, spermatogenesis, and melanogenesis. SCF exerts its biological functions by binding to and activating the c-Kit receptor (CD117). SCF/CD117 signaling is key to the maintenance of the hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) and progenitor cells in the bone marrow. SCF is abundantly expressed in the normal bone marrow and heart but is downregulated after myocardial infarction.
