Target Background

Function
Complexes with metalloproteinases (such as collagenases) and irreversibly inactivates them by binding to their catalytic zinc cofactor. Known to act on MMP-1, MMP-2, MMP-3, MMP-7 and MMP-9.
Gene References into Functions
  1. MMP2/TIMP4 ratio is a marker of disease severity and right ventricular function as well as a predictor for survival and time to clinical worsening in idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension. PMID: 28516393
