The production of this recombinant Human GM2A protein is just like all recombinant proteins. The process involved transfecting E.coli cells with DNA vector containing the template of recombinant DNA. The E.coli cells containing the template were then cultured so that they could transcribe and translate the GM2A protein. N-terminal 6xHis-SUMO tag was used in the process. The purity is 85% determined by SDS-PAGE.
The GM2A gene provides instructions for making a protein named ganglioside GM2 activator (also called cerebroside sulfate activator protein (GM2AP), sphingolipid activator protein 3 (SAP3)). The GM2A protein is involved in various biological processes, including ganglioside catabolic process, lipid storage and transport, neuromuscular process controlling balance, etc. The mature form of ganglioside GM2 activator protein is a small (20 kDa), a heat-stable, long-lived, protease-resistant glycosylated protein that normally resides in the lysozyme.
