Target Background

Function
Copper chaperone for the superoxide dismutases CSD1, CSD2 and CSD3. Binds copper ions and delivers them specifically to CSDs. Is required for assistance in CSDs disulfide bond formation and thereby activation of CSDs. May be involved in the negative regulation of heat stress-responsive genes and thermotolerance.
Gene References into Functions
  1. CCS1 gene encodes both a cytosolic and a chloroplastic form of CCS1. miR398 directs the post-transcriptional regulation of CCS1 mRNAs by cleavage and AGO10-mediated translational repression. [CCS1] PMID: 20128885
  2. Arabidopsis thaliana gene AtCCS encodes a functional homolog to yeast Ccs1p/Lys7p, a copper chaperone for SOD [AtCCS] PMID: 15848163
  3. The structure and function of the CCS gene of A. thaliana, including its copper and protein binding domains, are reported. PMID: 16126858
Subcellular Location
Plastid, chloroplast. Cytoplasm, cytosol.
Protein Families
Cu-Zn superoxide dismutase family
Tissue Specificity
Expressed in roots, shoots, stems and flowers, and at lower levels in rosette and cauline leaves.
