Description

The Chc polyclonal antibody is developed by immunizing a rabbit with a recombinant Drosophila melanogaster (Fruit fly) Chc protein Chc protein segment (amino acids 1-260). The resulting serum contains polyclonal antibodies, which are purified using affinity chromatography. The functionality of the Chc antibody is determined via ELISA and WB assays, affirming its effectiveness in detecting the Drosophila melanogaster (Fruit fly) Chc protein Chc protein in experimental conditions.

In Drosophila melanogaster (fruit fly), the Chc (Clathrin heavy chain) protein is a critical component of the clathrin protein complex, primarily involved in endocytosis, receptor-mediated internalization, and intracellular trafficking. Chc participates in the formation of clathrin-coated vesicles, which are instrumental in the uptake of substances from the extracellular environment through endocytosis. Notably, in neurons, Chc contributes to the recycling of synaptic vesicles, playing a key role in maintaining synaptic function.

Target Background

Function
Clathrin is the major protein of the polyhedral coat of coated pits and vesicles.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Bic-D is also required to transport Chc mRNA into the oocyte and for transport and proper localization of Chc protein to the oocyte cortex. PMID: 24718986
  2. Results report a Drosophila disabled (DAB)mutant revealing a novel role for DAB proteins in chemical synaptic transmission, and support a role for clathrin-mediated endocytosis in rapid clearance of neurotransmitter release sites. PMID: 21606364
  3. Bicaudal-D binds clathrin heavy chain to promote its transport and augments synaptic vesicle recycling. PMID: 20111007
  4. chc mRNA and protein are highly expressed from early stages of embryogenesis onwards, consistent with genetic studies predicting a maternal contribution of the gene function PMID: 19577664
  5. Chc is critical for synaptic vesicle recycling and in the absence of the protein, bulk retrieval mediates massive synaptic membrane internalization. PMID: 18762582
