Target Background

Function

Component of the Arp2/3 complex, a multiprotein complex that mediates actin polymerization upon stimulation by nucleation-promoting factor (NPF). The Arp2/3 complex mediates the formation of branched actin networks in the cytoplasm, providing the force for cell motility. In addition to its role in the cytoplasmic cytoskeleton, the Arp2/3 complex also promotes actin polymerization in the nucleus, thereby regulating gene transcription and repair of damaged DNA. The Arp2/3 complex promotes homologous recombination (HR) repair in response to DNA damage by promoting nuclear actin polymerization, leading to drive motility of double-strand breaks (DSBs).

Quantitative PCR demonstrated that ARPC5 was significantly increased in MM patients. GSEA results indicated that ARPC5 might affect cellular growth of myeloma cells through mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR)C1 signaling pathway. PMID: 30201948
Levels of ARPC5 expression were significantly higher in invasive cancer cells and gene expression was directly regulated by miR-133a. PMID: 22378351
identified as a substrate of MAPK-activated protein kinase 2(MAPKAPK2); the ability of MAPKAPK2 to phosphorylate one isoform of p16-Arc suggests a possible mechanism by which the p38 MAPK cascade regulates remodeling of the actin cytoskeleton PMID: 12829704
