Target Background

Function
Receptor for MSH (alpha, beta and gamma) and ACTH. The activity of this receptor is mediated by G proteins which activate adenylate cyclase. This receptor is a possible mediator of the immunomodulation properties of melanocortins.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Mutations in residues S4/S5 and S17/E18 retained MC5R at the ER/Golgi complex and did not affect MC5R homodimerization. PMID: 28396017
  2. D115 and D119 in TM3, F195 in TM5, and F254 in TM6 may form a binding pocket for NDP-alpha-MSH binding. PMID: 23414113
  3. Melanocortin 5 receptor signaling and internalization: role of MAPK/ERK pathway and beta-arrestins 1/2. PMID: 22871966
  4. Variations in the melanocortin 5 receptor gene are unlikely to confer susceptibility to bipolar disorder in this sample. PMID: 16314755
  5. Further structure-activity studies of lactam derivatives of MT-II and SHU-9119 were made at MC5R. PMID: 17482720
  6. MC5R signals through a PI3K-regulated Akt-independent pathway leading to downstream activation of ERK1/2 PMID: 19428994
