Target Background

Function
Phosphorylates inhibitors of NF-kappa-B thus leading to the dissociation of the inhibitor/NF-kappa-B complex and ultimately the degradation of the inhibitor. Phosphorylates 'Ser-10' of histone H3 at NF-kappa-B-regulated promoters during inflammatory responses triggered by cytokines.
Gene References into Functions
  1. These findings reveal a molecular mechanism regulating migration and invasion of epithelial cells and establish a key direct link between IKKbeta and cell motility controlled by Rap-integrin signaling. PMID: 24290981
  2. poky/chuk/ikk1 is required for differentiation of the zebrafish embryonic epidermis PMID: 20692251
  3. Ikk1 negatively regulates NF-kappaB by sequestering NEMO from active IKK complexes, indicating that IKK1 can function as a repressor of NF-kappaB. PMID: 16051172
Subcellular Location
Cytoplasm. Nucleus.
Protein Families
Protein kinase superfamily, Ser/Thr protein kinase family, I-kappa-B kinase subfamily
