Target Background

Function

Catalyzes the irreversible transamination of the L-tryptophan metabolite L-kynurenine to form kynurenic acid (KA). As a member of the malate-aspartate shuttle, it has a key role in the intracellular NAD(H) redox balance. Is important for metabolite exchange between mitochondria and cytosol, and for amino acid metabolism. Facilitates cellular uptake of long-chain free fatty acids.

Study utilizing integrative analysis of transcriptomic, metabolomic, and clinical data propose a model of GOT2 transcriptional regulation, in which the cooperative phosphorylation of STAT3 and direct joint binding of STAT3 and p65/NF-kappaB to the proximal GOT2 promoter are important. Furthermore, high aberrant GOT2 expression is prognostic in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. PMID: 29666362
