Description

The kgp antibody is designed to recognize the Porphyromonas gingivalis kgp protein. When a rabbit received an injection of the recombinant Porphyromonas gingivalis Lys-gingipain protein (229-594aa), an immune response occurred in the rabbit producing large amounts of antibodies against the kgp protein. The rabbit's blood was collected and isolated to get the anti-serum, which was purified by protein G to obtain the kgp polyclonal antibody (purity 95%+). This kgp antibody has accessed its specificity in ELISA and WB applications. Lys-gingipain is a Porphyromonas gingivalis-producing protease that plays a key role in viral pathogenicity.

Lys-gingipain can cleave a wide range of host proteins, including immunoglobulins, complement proteins, and extracellular matrix proteins such as collagen and elastin, enabling them to invade and destroy host tissues leading to tissue damage and inflammation. In addition to its proteolytic activity, Lys-gingipain also has been shown to inhibit the host immune response, allowing P. gingivalis to establish a persistent infection and cause chronic periodontitis.

Target Background

Function
Cysteine proteinase with a strong preference for substrates with Lys in the P1 position. Hydrolyzes bovine hemoglobin, bovine serum albumin, casein, human placental type I collagen and human IgA and IgG. Disrupts the functions of polymorphonuclear leukocytes. May act as a virulence factor in the development of peridontal disease. Involved in the coaggregation of P.gingivalis with other oral bacteria.
Gene References into Functions
  1. a significant fraction of SPINK6-sensitive proteases in healthy saliva and confirmed the ability of gingipains to inactivate SPINK6 under ex vivo conditions PMID: 27354280
Subcellular Location
[Lys-gingipain catalytic subunit]: Secreted.
Protein Families
Peptidase C25 family
