Target Background

Function
Tubulin is the major constituent of microtubules. It binds two moles of GTP, one at an exchangeable site on the beta chain and one at a non-exchangeable site on the alpha chain.
Gene References into Functions

  2. Roles of tubulin beta 1,3 residues Ala428 and Thr429 in microtubule formation in vivo. PMID: 19074767
  3. TUBB exon 4 mutations and mismatch repair defects do not play a significant role in paclitaxel/cisplatin resistance PMID: 16095531

  5. the dipole moments of each tubulin isotype may influence their functional characteristics within the cell, resulting in differences for MT assembly kinetics and stability PMID: 16941085
  6. Leucine point mutations viz. L215H, L217R, and L225M were reported for paclitaxel resistance in various cancers. 8. Data show that tubulin phosphorylation and acetylation play important roles in the control of microtubule assembly and stability. PMID: 26165356
  9. Data suggest that, while lacking a stable structure, NFL-TBS.40-63 peptide (a peptide derived from light neurofilament protein) preferentially binds on a specific single site located near C-terminal end of beta-tubulin. PMID: 26016807
  10. Citrullination of TUBB is associated with neoplasms. PMID: 24099319
  11. mechanism of binding and stabilization of microtubules in mammalian cells can be effectively modeled in yeast and also having the advantage of lacking any beta-tubulin isotypes that can complicate interpretation of experiments in mammalian cells. PMID: 24161989
