FGF-2 is a potent mitogen central to angiogenesis, wound healing, and stem cell maintenance, and this rat recombinant form (residues 11–154) demonstrates strong receptor-binding potency with an ED50 of 0.3–1.8 ng/mL in Balb/3T3 fibroblast proliferation assays. Because native FGF-2 is non-glycosylated, E. coli expression yields a tag-free protein that is functionally equivalent to the endogenous ligand, making it appropriate for receptor-ligand binding studies via SPR or ELISA, neural and osteogenic differentiation protocols, and in vivo angiogenesis or wound healing models. Endotoxin levels below 1.0 EU/μg combined with greater than 95% purity by SDS-PAGE satisfy the criteria typical for sensitive cell-based proliferation assays and long-term stem cell culture without confounding inflammatory artifacts.
