GSDMD

Gasdermin D (GSDMD) contains an N-terminal globular domain and a C-terminal pore-forming domain in its structure. This protein can be activated by inflammatory signals, leading to cell membrane perforation and initiating inflammatory cell death. GSDMD participates in the formation of inflammasomes, and upon activation by certain inflammatory signals, its N-terminus is cleaved, releasing an active N-terminal fragment that causes cell membrane rupture and inflammatory cell death, known as "pyroptosis." GSDMD is involved in various inflammation-related signaling pathways, including inflammasome formation and pro-inflammatory cell death. Research on GSDMD has shown its significance in inflammatory diseases, autoimmune conditions, and certain infectious diseases. Understanding the mechanisms of GSDMD may aid in developing new therapeutic approaches, particularly in regulating inflammation and autoimmune conditions.
