MLST8

MLST8, the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR)-associated protein LST8, has aliases that include G-protein beta subunit-like, GbetaL, GBL, Lst8, and Pop3.It is a protein that is widely expressed in cells, with the highest levels found in skeletal muscle, the heart, and the kidneys.MLST8 is a shared constituent of both the mTORC1 and the mTORC2 complex and plays a critical role in the regulation of cell growth and survival in response to nutrient and hormone signaling.The mechanism of action of MLST8 involves its function in the mTOR complex. In the mTORC1 complex, MLST8 interacts directly with mTOR to enhance its kinase activity, which is involved in the regulation of protein synthesis, cell growth, and autophagy.

In the mTORC2 complex, MLST8 also plays an important role. mTORC2 is insensitive to Rapamycin, participates in the response of insulin-PI3K signaling pathway and regulates cell proliferation. In addition, MLST8 is involved in the regulation of coronavirus replication and affects viral replication through the mTORC1 signaling pathway. knockdown of mLST8 inhibits the mTORC1 signaling pathway, which in turn activates autophagy and inhibits coronavirus replication.
