LCN2

Lipocalin-2 (LCN2), also known as neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL), is a secreted protein belonging to the lipocalin family. It binds and transports small, hydrophobic molecules. LCN2 participates in multiple cellular processes including iron homeostasis by sequestering iron-loaded siderophores. It is involved in the PI3K/Akt and MAPK signaling pathways.
Aberrant expression of LCN2 is linked to various diseases such as cancer, neurodegenerative disorders, and kidney injuries. Its role in tumor progression makes it a potential therapeutic target. Currently, researchers are exploring inhibitors and antibodies against LCN2, aiming to develop effective drugs for associated diseases.
