ADCYAP1R1

The ADCYAP1R1 gene encodes the ADCYAP receptor type I, also known as PAC1R. This receptor is a G-protein coupled receptor that mediates the effects of pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide (PACAP) in the central nervous system. It is involved in stress response and fear regulation, playing a critical role in the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis and the amygdala. ADCYAP1R1 is associated with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and anxiety, and its dysregulation may contribute to these conditions. Research into ADCYAP1R1 has led to potential therapeutic targets for PTSD and anxiety disorders, with ongoing drug development efforts focusing on PACAP receptor antagonists.
