Description |
The human VEGF ELISA Kit is based on the quantitative sandwich ELISA technology. Capture antibody and detection antibody sandwich the analyte to form an immune complex, HRP of which catalyzes the TMB to generate a colored product. The density of produced color is proportional to the human VEGF captured onto the plate. This ELISA kit shows no cross-reactivity with other relevant proteins. It can be used to detect human VEGF in serum, plasma, cell culture supernates, tissue homogenates, cell lysates, or urine. VEGFA, commonly referred to as VEGF, is an essential growth factor for vascular endothelial cells and regulates endothelial cell permeability, proliferation, migration, and fenestration formation. It is also a central proangiogenic factor in the development, wound healing, bone formation, hematopoiesis, and pathogenic processes, such as carcinogenesis, psoriasis, and rheumatoid arthritis. VEGF binds to VEGFRs and activates multiple signaling pathways involving cell proliferation, survival, migration, and tissue permeability. High VEGF expression has been detected in tumor cells and tumor-related stromal cells, allowing tumor neoangiogenesis and facilitating tumoral immune tolerance. |

Sample type: Cell culture supernatant
Sample species: Human
Review: The concentrations of VEGF-A in fibroblast cell culture supernatants 6 h and 24 h after LTP treatment for 30 s, 1 min, 3 min, and 5 min were measured by ELISA. Each sample was assayed in duplicate, and the analysis was performed three times independently. Data are the mean ± S.E. *p < 0.05 vs. the untreated control group.

Sample type: Cell culture supernatant
Sample species: Human
Review: Expression levels of VEGF in the conditioned medium of the indicated cells (U87 and U251) treated with hypoxia for 24 h, as determined by an ELISA.

Sample type: Serum
Sample species: Human
Review: There was a significant tendency for an increase in serum VEGF during the course from day 3 POR to day 6 POR in the control group (P=0.015). In the cetrorelix group, no significant increase or decline in VEGF from day 3 POR to day 6 POR was observed.

Review: Effects of extracts from Gac fruit parts (peel, pulp, seed, and aril) on VEGF level of ARPE-19 cells in HG condition treated with different concentrations (50, 100, and 250 μg/mL) for 48 h. Results are expressed as mean ± SD for three measurements. Bars not having the same letters are significantly different at P < 0.05. LG: low glucose (5.5 mmol/L); HG: high glucose (30 mmol/L).

Function (From Uniprot) |
Growth factor active in angiogenesis, vasculogenesis and endothelial cell growth. Induces endothelial cell proliferation, promotes cell migration, inhibits apoptosis and induces permeabilization of blood vessels. Binds to the FLT1/VEGFR1 and KDR/VEGFR2 receptors, heparan sulfate and heparin. NRP1/Neuropilin-1 binds isoforms VEGF-165 and VEGF-145. Isoform VEGF165B binds to KDR but does not activate downstream signaling pathways, does not activate angiogenesis and inhibits tumor growth. Binding to NRP1 receptor initiates a signaling pathway needed for motor neuron axon guidance and cell body migration, including for the caudal migration of facial motor neurons from rhombomere 4 to rhombomere 6 during embryonic development.

Gene References into Functions |
|
Involvement in disease | Microvascular complications of diabetes 1 (MVCD1) |
Subcellular Location | Secreted. Note=VEGF121 is acidic and freely secreted. VEGF165 is more basic, has heparin-binding properties and, although a significant proportion remains cell-associated, most is freely secreted. VEGF189 is very basic, it is cell-associated after secretion and is bound avidly by heparin and the extracellular matrix, although it may be released as a soluble form by heparin, heparinase or plasmin. |
Protein Families | PDGF/VEGF growth factor family |
Tissue Specificity | Isoform VEGF189, isoform VEGF165 and isoform VEGF121 are widely expressed. Isoform VEGF206 and isoform VEGF145 are not widely expressed. A higher level expression seen in pituitary tumors as compared to the pituitary gland. |
