CSF1

Colony-stimulating factor 1 (CSF1), also commonly known as macrophage colony-stimulating factor (M-CSF), is a glycoprotein. It binds to the CSF1 receptor (CSF1R) on the cell surface to activate multiple downstream signaling pathways, such as the PI3K/Akt and Ras/MAPK pathways. These actions promote the survival, proliferation, and differentiation of monocytes, macrophages, and their precursors.
Aberrant CSF1 signaling is linked to various diseases, including cancers, where it can contribute to tumor - associated macrophage recruitment and tumor progression, as well as certain inflammatory and neurodegenerative disorders. In drug development, CSF1R inhibitors are being actively explored to target the CSF1 pathway, aiming to disrupt the tumor microenvironment and treat related diseases.
