CEMIP, also known as cell migration - inducing protein, is also commonly referred to as KIAA1199. It plays a key role in cell migration, proliferation, and survival. Mechanistically, CEMIP modulates the extracellular matrix by degrading hyaluronan, an essential component of the matrix. It is involved in the Wnt and PI3K - AKT signaling pathways.
CEMIP is implicated in various diseases, particularly cancers, where its overexpression is associated with tumor invasion and metastasis. In drug development, there is growing interest in targeting CEMIP. Some pre - clinical studies are exploring inhibitors that can block its function, aiming to limit the progression of related diseases.
