GPC2, also known as glypican-2, is a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored glycoprotein located on the cell surface. Belonging to the family of GPI-anchored heparan sulfate proteoglycans, GPC2 exhibits a unique glycan chain structure that confers biological activities. It plays a pivotal role in cell signaling, embryonic development, and tumorigenesis. Through interactions with cell surface receptors, GPC2 regulates the activation or inhibition of signaling pathways, thereby influencing cellular processes such as proliferation, differentiation, and migration. During embryonic development, GPC2 is involved in regulating cell polarity, adhesion, and tissue morphogenesis, ensuring normal embryonic development. Additionally, altered expression levels of GPC2 have been observed in certain types of tumors, potentially linked to malignant transformation and aggressiveness. With further research on GPC2, we aim to comprehensively understand its complexity and diversity in the biological system, providing novel insights and approaches for the diagnosis and treatment of related diseases.
