The KLRB1 gene encodes the Killer cell lectin-like receptor subfamily B member 1 protein, commonly known as CD161. This type II transmembrane protein is a member of the C-type lectin superfamily. Its mechanism of action involves interacting with its ligand, CLEC2D, to influence the activation, proliferation, and cytokine production of immune cells. It is involved in the NK cell-mediated cytotoxicity signaling pathway.
Abnormal expression of KLRB1 is associated with various diseases, including autoimmune diseases and cancers. In drug development, targeting KLRB1 and its related signaling pathways is being explored as a potential therapeutic strategy. Some pre - clinical studies have shown promising results, but further research is needed for clinical applications.
