METTL1, methyltransferase 1, is an enzyme that plays a key role in post-transcriptional modification of RNA. It forms a complex with the WDR4 protein and is primarily responsible for adding the 7-methylguanosine (m7G) modification at position 46 of tRNA. This modification is essential for tRNA stability and function, and can regulate cell growth and metabolism. The mechanism of action of METTL1 involves recognising RNA substrates and catalysing the methylation process, and its activity is regulated by a variety of factors, including post-translational modifications. In terms of signalling, METTL1 activity is associated with signalling pathways such as AKT-mTOR, which influence the overall mRNA translation efficiency. In a biological sense, METTL1 is involved in the regulation of gene expression, which affects the proliferation of tumour cells and tumour development.Dysregulation of METTL1 has been associated with the development of a variety of cancers, including head and neck tumours, lung cancers, liver cancers, and so on, making it a promising therapeutic target for tumour therapy.
