SF3A2, also known as splicing factor 3a subunit 2, is alternatively named PRP11, SAP62, PRPF11, and SF3a66. SF3A2 works in concert with other subunits of the splicing factor 3a complex, particularly converting 15S U2 snRNP into active 17S particles, a process crucial for pre-mRNA splicing. SF3A2 interacts with subunit 1 through its amino-terminal region, and its single zinc finger domain plays a role in binding to 15S U2 snRNP. SF3A2 can also function as a microtubule-binding protein independently of its RNA splicing activity. SF3A2 is essential for maintaining normal pre-mRNA splicing processes, and its dysfunction is associated with various diseases, including the development and resistance of certain cancers.
