ACOT7, acyl coenzyme A thioesterase 7, alias Acyl-CoAthioesterase7, ACT, ACH1, BACH, CTE-II, hBACH, LACH, LACH1, MGC1126, RP1-120G22. This is an enzyme expressed in human cells and belongs to the family of acyl coenzyme A thioesterases.
ACOT7 is highly expressed mainly in brain tissue and testis, where it hydrolyzes long-chain acyl coenzyme A, especially palmitoyl coenzyme A, in the cytoplasm to produce free long-chain fatty acids and coenzyme A. This process is essential for the regulation of fatty acid metabolism and cell signaling. The activity of ACOT7 is closely related to the state of health of neuronal cells, and its aberrant expression may be relevant to diseases such as medial temporal lobe epilepsy. ACOT7 also plays a role in cell cycle progression and may affect the cell cycle by regulating the PKCζ-p53-p21 signaling pathway.
ACOT7 not only plays a role in energy metabolism, but is also a potential target for the treatment of neurological diseases and cancer.
