ASXL1, also known as MDS and BOPS, is an epigenetic regulatory factor belonging to the polycomb family of proteins. It has histone methyltransferase activity and can regulate chromatin structure and gene expression. ASXL1 interacts with various proteins, influencing transcriptional regulation of genes. Its mutations are often detected during clonal hematopoiesis and are associated with increased risk of death. ASXL1 plays a crucial role in hematopoiesis and myeloid malignancies, being one of the most common mutated genes across all subtypes of myeloid malignancies, and is related to tumor development.
