BNC2, or zinc finger protein basonuclin-2, alias basic nucleoprotein 2, BSN2, LUTO. BNC2 is encoded by the human BNC2 gene, which is located on chromosome 9 in the region p22.3-p22.2. The protein encoded by BNC2 is a conserved zinc-finger protein, whose main functions include a role in skin color saturation and has been associated with facial pigmentation.
In addition, the BNC2 gene has been associated with susceptibility to adolescent idiopathic scoliosis. BNC2 is not only involved in the regulation of skin pigmentation, but may also play a role in the nervous system. For example, recent studies have found that BNC2 neurons play a key role in the regulation of hunger and satiety, and are capable of rapidly suppressing appetite.
