ECH1

Enoyl-CoA hydratase 1 (ECH1), also known as enoyl-CoA hydratase, is a mitochondrial enzyme involved in the β-oxidation of fatty acids. ECH1 catalyzes the hydration of enoyl-CoA to 3-hydroxyacyl-CoA, a crucial step in fatty acid metabolism. It is a key regulator of lipid metabolism and has been implicated in various signaling pathways, including those related to inflammation and immunity. ECH1 dysregulation is associated with several diseases, such as nonalcoholic steatohepatitis and glioblastoma, and is a potential therapeutic target for these conditions.
Recent research has highlighted the role of ECH1 in lipid peroxidation and its impact on tumor metabolism. In glioblastoma, ECH1 inhibition has been shown to enhance oxidative stress and sensitivity to ferroptosis, suggesting its potential as a therapeutic target. Additionally, ECH1's involvement in aortic valve calcification and its regulation of Runx2 via the Wnt5a/Ca2+ pathway indicate its diverse biological functions and therapeutic implications.
