FABP5

FABP5, fatty acid binding protein 5, is a lipid chaperone protein widely found in many tissues. It is involved in the regulation of fatty acid uptake, transport, metabolism, and inflammatory responses, among other biological processes.The mechanism of action of FABP5 involves binding to long-chain unsaturated fatty acids, which in turn affects intracellular lipid metabolism and signalling. In particular, under oxidative stress, FABP5 can promote its nuclear translocation through glutathionylation modification, activate the PPARβ/δ signalling pathway, inhibit macrophage inflammation, and protect against inflammatory diseases such as acute lung injury. In addition, FABP5 also affects macrophage M2 polarisation by regulating the PPARγ signalling pathway, which in turn is involved in immunoregulatory processes such as allergic asthma.Abnormal function of FABP5 has been associated with a wide range of diseases, including cancers, inflammatory diseases and metabolic disorders, and is an important therapeutic target for disease treatment.
