GSTT1, glutathione S-transferase T1 or Glutathione S Transferase theta 1, is a vital detoxification enzyme encoded by the human genome. Its primary role is to catalyze the conjugation of glutathione to harmful substances, facilitating their removal from the body and protecting cells from damage. In the context of cancer, GSTT1 helps reduce cancer risk by metabolizing carcinogens; however, excessive levels of GSTT1 can lead to resistance against chemotherapy.
