IRF6

IRF6, also known as interferon regulatory factor 6, plays a crucial role in various biological processes. It is a transcription factor belonging to the interferon regulatory factor family. Common aliases include IRF-6. IRF6 functions in regulating gene expression by binding to specific DNA sequences. It is involved in the Wnt signaling pathway, which is essential for cell proliferation, differentiation, and tissue development.
Mutations in the IRF6 gene are associated with several genetic disorders, such as Van der Woude syndrome and popliteal pterygium syndrome. Due to its involvement in these diseases, IRF6 has become a target for drug development. Currently, research is ongoing to explore potential therapeutic agents that can modulate its activity.
