KCNQ1

The KCNQ1 gene encodes the potassium voltage-gated channel subfamily Q member 1 protein, also known as Kv7.1. This protein is a crucial subunit of voltage-gated potassium channels, which play a key role in regulating the electrical activity of cells. It is involved in the repolarization phase of the action potential, thereby influencing the duration of the cardiac cycle.
KCNQ1 is associated with the cAMP-PKA signaling pathway, which modulates its activity. Mutations in KCNQ1 are linked to several diseases, including long QT syndrome and Jervell and Lange-Nielsen syndrome. In drug development, compounds targeting KCNQ1 channels are being explored for treating arrhythmias, aiming to restore normal cardiac electrical function.
