LACTB, Lactobacillus kinase β homologous protein, alias Lactodifucin β subunit, LNFβ, is a highly conserved protein, belonging to the WD-40 protein repeat family, which is widely present in eukaryotic cells. The mechanism of action of LACTB involves its participation in the regulation of microtubule dynamics, which affects the stability and dynamics of microtubules through its interaction with microtubule proteins, and then participates in the processes of cell division, maintenance of cell morphology, and intracellular substance transport.
LACTB is biologically significant for its role in the regulation of the cytoskeleton, especially in the regulation of the microtubule network during cytokinesis.LACTB binds to microtubules, which may affect the formation and function of the spindle, and consequently the correct segregation of chromosomes. In addition, LACTB is involved in intracellular signaling, interacting with a variety of signaling proteins and participating in the regulation of the cell cycle.Abnormal function of LACTB has been associated with certain diseases, including certain types of cancers, and its aberrant expression in tumor cells may be related to tumor aggressiveness and metastasis. Therefore, LACTB is a potential target in cell biology research and treatment of related diseases.
