MOG

Myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG), a key component of the immunoglobulin superfamily, resides on the surface of oligodendrocytes and the outer myelin sheath in the central nervous system. MOG antibody-associated diseases (MOGAD) are a distinct set of immune-mediated demyelinating disorders, separate from multiple sclerosis and neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder. MOGAD's pathogenesis is characterized by MOG-specific T-follicle helper cells driving B cell differentiation and MOG-IgG antibody production, which then enter the central nervous system, bind to MOG, and trigger oligodendrocyte damage and demyelination via complement and antibody pathways. Clinically diverse, MOGAD affects children more frequently than adults and tends to have a better prognosis.
