MPC1

The protein corresponding to the gene MPC1 is Mitochondrial Pyruvate Carrier 1. It has no widely - known aliases. MPC1 forms a complex with MPC2 to transport pyruvate across the mitochondrial inner membrane. This process is crucial for pyruvate entry into the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle, fueling ATP production.
MPC1 is involved in the pyruvate - TCA cycle pathway. Dysfunction of MPC1 has been linked to metabolic diseases like diabetes and cancer. In drug R & D, targeting MPC1 holds potential for developing new therapies for these metabolic disorders, although significant work remains before clinical applications.
