NELFCD (Negative elongation factor CD) is part of the NELF protein family, which includes NELFA, NELFB, NELFE, and NELFD. The primary function of NELFCD is to negatively regulate transcription. Its structural characteristics include multiple conserved domains, such as helical structures and helix-turn-helix structures, and it forms a complex with other NELF proteins to participate in the inhibition of gene transcription. In terms of signaling pathways, NELFCD acts as a transcriptional repressor by interacting with the RNA polymerase II complex, thereby inhibiting the rate of RNA synthesis and regulating gene expression by negatively regulating gene transcription. Research on NELFCD may provide new insights for the future development of relevant drugs or therapeutic approaches.
