NIBAN1

NIBAN1 encodes the Niban Apoptosis Regulator 1 protein, commonly known as C1orf24. As an anti-apoptotic factor, it protects cells from stress-induced death by modulating endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress responses and interacting with the PI3K/Akt pathway—promoting Akt phosphorylation to enhance cell survival.
Dysregulated NIBAN1 expression links to colorectal and lung cancer, where overexpression drives tumor progression and chemoresistance. Current research focuses on targeting its anti-apoptotic function; however, specific therapeutic agents remain in preclinical stages, with small molecule inhibitors being explored to disrupt its protective effects in cancer cells.
