OPCML, also known as Opioid Binding Protein/Cell Adhesion Molecule-like, is a member of the IgLON subfamily within the immunoglobulin protein superfamily. It functions as a tumor suppressor, regulating cellular processes such as cell adhesion, migration, and signaling pathways. OPCML interacts with various oncogenic receptor tyrosine kinases, leading to their down-regulation and tumor growth inhibition. Its loss or diminished function is often observed in ovarian, breast, lung, and gastric cancers. OPCML inhibitors are currently under development, targeting OPCML pathways to treat cancers with reduced OPCML expression, offering a novel therapeutic approach with promising potential.
