PLK2

PLK2, also known as Polo-like kinase 2, has alternative names including SNK, hSNK, and hPlk2. PLK2 is a serine/threonine protein kinase that belongs to the Polo-like kinase family and plays a role in normal cell division. PLK2 accumulates during the S and G2 phases of the cell cycle, with its protein content and catalytic activity peaking at the start of mitosis and then rapidly decreasing. Additionally, PLK2 is involved in multiple processes, including negative regulation of bone marrow cell apoptosis, negative regulation of cellular senescence, and positive regulation of cell migration in sprouting angiogenesis. PLK2 functions in various physiological processes, such as synaptic plasticity, centriole replication, and G1/S phase transition. Abnormal expression of PLK2 is associated with several diseases, including hereditary breast and ovarian cancer syndrome and familial temporal lobe epilepsy type 2.
