POGK

POGK, pogo transposable element with KRAB domain, alias BASS2, KRBOX2, LST003. POGK is encoded by the human POGK gene, which is located on chromosome 1 in the region 1q24.1. The protein encoded by POGK contains a KRAB structural domain at the N-terminal end and a transposase structural domain at the C-terminal end, suggesting that it may belong to the family of human DNA-mediated transposons.
The role of POGK mechanism involves binding to the transcriptional co-repressor TRIM28, which directly inhibits the transcription of core ribosomal proteins, thereby comprehensively suppressing ribosomal biological functions and limiting the growth of triple-negative breast cancer cells. POGK, as a transposable element-derived gene, plays a key role in tumorigenesis and progression, and changes in the expression of POGK are particularly significant in breast cancer. POGK is active in the development of breast cancer through the repression of the expression of ribosomal genes, initial protein synthesis, and then inhibit the growth of triple-negative breast cancer cells, which is expected to be a potential target for tumor therapy.
