RPS27L encodes ribosomal protein S27-like, a component of the 40S ribosomal subunit involved in mRNA translation. Aberrant expression correlates with cancers like colorectal and breast cancer via p53 pathway dysregulation.
Preclinical studies target RPS27L-MDM2 interaction to reactivate p53. Small molecules disrupting this binding show promise in inducing cancer cell apoptosis. However, clinical development is nascent, with focus on optimizing specificity and reducing off-target effects.
