SGMS1

SGMS1 (Sphingomyelin Synthase 1), alias SMS1, is a key enzyme in sphingolipid metabolism. It catalyzes the transfer of phosphocholine from phosphatidylcholine to ceramide, generating sphingomyelin (SM) and diacylglycerol (DAG). This reaction maintains membrane lipid homeostasis—SM is a major component of cell membranes and lipid rafts, supporting signal pathways involved in cell proliferation, apoptosis, and differentiation.
Dysregulation of SGMS1 links to metabolic disorders like non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and cardiovascular diseases via impaired lipid balance. Emerging drug research focuses on small-molecule inhibitors targeting SGMS1 to modulate SM levels, a potential strategy for treating lipid-related conditions and cancers driven by abnormal sphingolipid signaling.

IHC image of CSB-PA801243LA01HU diluted at 1:400 and staining in paraffin-embedded human pancreatic tissue performed on a Leica BondTM system. After dewaxing and hydration, antigen retrieval was mediated by high pressure in a citrate buffer (pH 6.0). Section was blocked with 10% normal goat serum 30min at RT. Then primary antibody (1% BSA) was incubated at 4°C overnight. The primary is detected by a biotinylated secondary antibody and visualized using an HRP conjugated SP system.
