SLFN14

The protein encoded by SLFN14 is Schlafen family member 14, commonly referred to as SLFN14. It belongs to the Schlafen family of proteins, which are involved in various cellular processes including cell proliferation, differentiation, and immune regulation. SLFN14 is primarily expressed in hematopoietic tissues and has been implicated in the regulation of ribosomal RNA processing and protein synthesis.
Dysregulation of SLFN14 has been associated with inherited thrombocytopenia, a condition characterized by low platelet counts. Studies suggest that mutations in SLFN14 disrupt megakaryocyte maturation and platelet formation. Currently, there are no specific drugs targeting SLFN14, but research is ongoing to understand its exact molecular mechanisms and potential therapeutic implications in hematological disorders.
