TAC1, tachykinin peptide peptide hormone family member 1, also known as Ga55, KIAA1103, Tacc1, Taxin1, is a neuropeptide precursor protein encoded by the human TAC1 gene, which is located on human chromosome 6.
TAC1 is widely expressed in the nervous system, particularly in the region of the nucleus ambiguus in the striatum. Its mechanism of action involves acting as a neurotransmitter, interacting with nerve receptors and smooth muscle cells, and participating in nociceptive transmission, vasodilation, secretory stimulation, and emotional responses.TAC1 is involved in the modulation of a variety of biological functions through the neuropeptides that it encodes, including the induction of behavioral responses, and antimicrobial and antifungal properties.
Aberrant TAC1 expression has been associated with a variety of disorders, including depression, neuropathic pain and cancer. TAC1 is an important target for the study of neuropsychiatric disorders and the development of therapeutic strategies.
