APOBEC3C

APOBEC3C, also known as apolipoprotein B mRNA editing enzyme catalytic subunit 3C, is a member of the APOBEC family of cytidine deaminases. It plays a crucial role in innate immunity by editing single-stranded DNA and RNA, thereby inhibiting retroviral replication. APOBEC3C functions through the deamination of cytosines to uracils, leading to lethal mutations in the viral genome. This protein is involved in various signaling pathways, including those related to antiviral defense and immune regulation. Its dysregulation is associated with several diseases, such as HIV-1 infection and certain cancers. Ongoing research focuses on developing drugs that target APOBEC3C to enhance antiviral therapy and treat cancer.
