AZU1

The gene AZU1 encodes azurocidin 1, also commonly known as cationic antimicrobial protein 37 (CAP37) or heparin-binding protein (HBP). This protein is a member of the serine protease family. It plays a role in the innate immune response by interacting with bacteria and promoting immune cell recruitment. It is involved in the inflammatory signaling pathway, facilitating the release of cytokines.
AZU1 is associated with various diseases, such as sepsis and acute lung injury, due to its involvement in the inflammatory process. In terms of drug development, there are ongoing studies exploring its potential as a therapeutic target. Modulating its activity could offer new strategies for treating inflammatory - related disorders.
